This fungus belongs to the order Cantharellales and is distinguished by its ability to spread rapidly over the canopy, forming a characteristic cobweb-like mycelial mesh on the foliage.

The primary host for this pathogen is the coffee plant (Coffea spp.), though it can affect a broad range of agricultural crops and wild plants under favorable environmental conditions. Its parasitic nature allows it to thrive in the humid, warm environments typical of high-altitude tropical forests, posing a consistent threat to perennial crop yields.

Diagnostic symptoms include the appearance of irregular, dark brown spots on the leaves, which rapidly become necrotic. As the infection progresses, leaves wither and drop prematurely.
