The Sharp cortinarius (Latin: Cortinarius acutus) is a species of fungus belonging to the genus Cortinarius. It is essential to clarify that this fungus is not a plant disease or a pathogen that affects agricultural crops. It is a strictly forest-dwelling species that forms symbiotic relationships with trees, specifically within the mycorrhizal network of woodland environments.

Regarding its biological classification, it is not a parasite. It does not cause infections, lesions, or wilting in crops. Its existence is tied to the forest floor, where it processes organic matter and aids in the nutrient cycle for trees. In professional agronomy, this species is classified as non-hazardous, as it holds no significance as an agricultural pest or disease-causing agent.

Symptoms of its presence include the appearance of small, conical-capped mushrooms with a distinct acute umbo. The cap color is usually yellowish-brown to tawny. While gardeners might notice these in the soil, they are not signs of a disease outbreak but rather an indication of natural soil processes and healthy moisture levels in the immediate surroundings of a forested area.

The conditions required for its development include high humidity, shaded environments, and acidic soils rich in leaf litter. It thrives in temperate forests during the autumn months when rainfall increases. These conditions are not typically associated with high-yield agricultural production areas, meaning that Cortinarius acutus does not encounter crops that it could potentially interact with.

Management and prevention measures are not applicable since the fungus poses no threat to crops. There is no need for chemical intervention or fungicide usage. In instances where appearance in landscape gardens causes concern, mechanical removal of the fruit bodies is sufficient. Maintaining good soil drainage and avoiding stagnant water is the only long-term recommendation to manage the fungal activity in the soil.
