The splendid webcap (Cortinarius splendens) is a species of fungus in the family Cortinariaceae. While primarily known for its role in mycorrhizal networks, its excessive development within the rhizosphere of young trees can be considered a pathological factor that disrupts the normal growth cycle and nutrient uptake of the host plants.

The pathogen is a basidiomycete that interacts with tree roots. It typically manifests as a disturbance in the symbiotic balance, leading to root system suppression. When the fungal mycelium becomes too dense, it inhibits the root's ability to absorb water and essential minerals, effectively acting as an opportunistic stressor for young plantations.
