The primary clinical signs of the disease include the formation of distinct, black, crust-like stromata that erupt through the bark surface. As the fungus develops underneath the bark, it creates blisters and cracks, eventually leading to the death of the bark tissue and the underlying cambium layer, which disrupts the transport of nutrients.
