Cyphellophora sessilis is a species of anamorphic fungi that acts as a plant pathogen, primarily associated with leaf spotting diseases in various plant species. As a member of the diverse group of microfungi, it thrives by colonizing plant tissues, causing localized lesions that diminish the aesthetic and physiological vigor of the host plant. It is frequently observed in greenhouse environments where microclimates favor fungal proliferation.
The host range of Cyphellophora sessilis includes a variety of ornamental plants, particularly those kept in humid indoor or glasshouse settings. While it may not always be fatal, the infection can severely damage the foliage, rendering the plant unsightly and weakening its overall defense mechanisms, which may lead to secondary infections by other opportunistic pathogens.
