As a saprotroph, the fungus plays a vital role in decomposing organic debris, such as leaf litter and compost. Its lifecycle depends on high humidity and the presence of moist, decomposing vegetable matter. The mycelium thrives in the upper soil layers, utilizing organic nutrients to fuel the production of ephemeral fruiting bodies.
