The primary hosts for this pathogen are trees of the genus Nothofagus, particularly the southern beech (Nothofagus obliqua). The fungus invades the vascular tissues and cambium, inducing abnormal cell growth, which eventually disrupts nutrient transport and weakens the structural integrity of the affected host tree.
