Desmosorus

Desmosorus is a specialized fungal infection that specifically targets fern species, characterized by its impact on the plant's reproductive tissues. As an obligate parasite, the fungus colonizes the underside of fronds, interfering with the formation and maturation of spores and causing physiological distress to the host plant.

Symptoms of the infection are most visible on the underside of the fern's fronds. The fungus causes the development of atypical, distorted growths or lesions in the area where healthy sori should normally appear. As the infection progresses, these areas may become discolored and necrotic, leading to visible deformation of the leaf tissue and often causing the frond to wither prematurely.
