The disease is characterized by both systemic and localized necrosis, eventually compromising the structural and physiological health of the palm tree.

Host range primarily includes species within the Arecaceae family, with the date palm (Phoenix dactylifera) being a frequent target. The fungus is capable of colonizing various parts of the plant, including leaves, petioles, and sometimes the stem if the tree is significantly weakened or wounded.
