The primary symptom of the disease is the appearance of small, distinct yellow spots on the scale-like leaves, which gradually darken to a brown or black color. Within these spots, the fungus develops its fruiting bodies, known as apothecia, which appear as raised, dark structures. As the infection progresses, the foliage turns brown, shrivels, and eventually sheds, leading to significant defoliation of the lower canopy.
