Diplophlyctis is a genus of chytrid fungi (Phylum Chytridiomycota) known to act as pathogens of various plant species. These microorganisms are characterized by their ability to release motile zoospores equipped with flagella, which enable them to move through water films to reach and infect the host plant tissues efficiently.

The pathogen primarily affects aquatic plants and terrestrial crops growing in waterlogged conditions. In agricultural settings, such as greenhouses or hydroponic systems, Diplophlyctis can infest root systems, leading to dysfunction in water uptake and nutrient translocation, which significantly impacts the health and yield of the plant population.

The primary symptoms of an infection include root decay, discoloration of roots, and the emergence of microscopic sporangia on the surface of the infected tissue.
