The pathogen functions by infecting the host cell, where it develops specialized structures to absorb nutrients. The life cycle involves the release of motile zoospores equipped with flagella, which swim through the water column to locate and colonize new, healthy algal cells. This rapid transmission method makes them highly effective at decimating algal populations in contained environments.
