Enterographa is a genus of crustose lichens belonging to the family Roccellaceae. While sometimes mistaken by gardeners for a fungal disease or a bark infection, it is strictly an epiphytic organism. This means it uses the tree solely as a physical substrate for anchoring its thallus, without deriving nutrients from the host plant's tissues.

Biologically, Enterographa is a symbiotic association between a fungus and an alga or cyanobacterium. The fungal partner provides structure and protection, while the photobiont produces sugars via photosynthesis. Because they do not penetrate the tree's vascular system, they do not cause physiological distress or necrotic lesions typically associated with plant pathogens.

The host range for this genus includes various broad-leaved trees, such as oak, beech, and alder, especially in humid or sheltered environments. In agricultural or horticultural settings, their appearance is often linked to high atmospheric humidity, shade, or poor airflow within the tree canopy, which promotes the growth of diverse lichen communities on bark.

The symptoms of Enterographa presence are characterized by the development of flat, often embedded thalli on the bark surface. The reproductive structures (apothecia) are typically elongated, thin, and linear, which gives the colony a "script-like" appearance—a common trait among many species in this genus. These patches range in color from pale gray to brownish or pinkish tones.

No protective measures are necessary, as Enterographa is not a disease and does not harm the vitality of the tree. Management practices should focus on maintaining healthy tree vigor through proper pruning to improve air circulation and sunlight exposure. Removing lichens is not recommended as they are part of a healthy ecosystem; however, standard sanitary clearing of dead bark can naturally reduce their presence.
