Entomophaga is a genus of specialized fungi belonging to the order Entomophthorales. These organisms are recognized in agronomy not as plant pathogens, but as essential biological control agents that target specific insect pests. The mechanism of action involves the fungal spores landing on the insect's cuticle and germinating. Once inside the host, the mycelium proliferates, consuming the insect's tissues and nutrients. This lethal process is highly specific to certain insect species, making it a powerful tool for maintaining ecological balance in fields and gardens.
