Entyloma guaraniticum is a pathogenic fungus that causes a specific type of leaf spot disease in various plant species, most notably in the genus Stevia. As a member of the smut fungi group, it primarily attacks the vegetative parts of the host plant, interfering with metabolic processes and reducing overall biomass yield.
The host range is often focused on specific ornamental and industrial herbs. When the environment is favorable, the pathogen can spread rapidly through a crop, causing extensive leaf damage which compromises the health of the plant and its commercial value for producers who rely on leaf harvesting.
