As an obligate parasite, this fungus relies on the host plant to complete its life cycle, utilizing host tissues for nutrient acquisition and the formation of teliospores, which are characteristic of this taxonomic group.
The primary host range includes various ornamental varieties of Rudbeckia. The fungus is highly adapted to these plants, and its presence can be detrimental to the overall vigor of the host. In gardening and commercial floriculture, this pathogen is considered a nuisance that disrupts the cosmetic appearance and physiological health of the infected perennials and annuals.
