The fungus Erysiphe euphorbiicola is a specialized pathogen responsible for powdery mildew infections on various species of the Euphorbia genus. This obligate parasite extracts nutrients directly from the epidermal cells of the host, weakening the plant significantly.
The primary diagnostic sign is the appearance of white, dusty patches on leaves, stems, and bracts. These spots gradually expand until they form a dense, white, felt-like mat that covers significant parts of the plant, often leading to chlorosis of the underlying tissues.
