The pathology of these fungi involves the formation of specialized fruiting bodies known as perithecia, which are attached to the host's exoskeleton. Unlike phytopathogenic fungi that penetrate plant cells, Euceratomycetaceae only interact with the superficial layers of the insect cuticle, ensuring the host remains alive for the duration of the fungal life cycle.
