Euzodiomyces lathrobii is a specialized fungus belonging to the order Laboulbeniales, which are obligate ectoparasites of insects. It is crucial to clarify that this organism is not a plant disease. It does not infect or cause symptoms on any agricultural crops; its host range is strictly limited to certain species of staphylinid beetles (rove beetles).
The fungus develops by attaching to the exoskeleton of the host beetle using a specialized structure called a haustorium. Through this structure, it absorbs nutrients from the host's hemolymph. Unlike systemic pathogens that destroy internal tissues, this fungus remains superficial, growing almost entirely on the exterior surface of the beetle's body.
Because the host insects are often predatory or neutral organisms within the soil ecosystem, Euzodiomyces lathrobii has no negative economic impact on crop production. It does not reduce plant yield, affect fruit quality, or cause wilting or lesions on leaves, stems, or roots of cultivated plants.
The conditions for the fungus's development are dictated by the population dynamics of the beetles. Transmission occurs during physical contact between individual insects. Environmental factors such as high humidity levels provide the necessary conditions for the spores to germinate on the beetle’s cuticle, allowing the fungus to propagate within its host population.

As it is a naturally occurring parasite of beetles, it does not represent a threat to crops and does not warrant any form of chemical or biological control. It should be viewed as part of the natural entomofauna of agricultural environments rather than a target for pest management.
