The order Filobasidiales comprises a group of fungi that are primarily recognized for their yeast-like growth stages. In an agricultural context, these organisms are known as potential pathogens capable of inducing various plant diseases. While often associated with saprophytic behavior, certain species transition to a pathogenic role under stress conditions, impacting the overall health and productivity of host plants.

A wide range of crops, including cereals, fruits, and certain greenhouse vegetables, can be susceptible to infection by Filobasidiales. The pathogen typically targets the vascular tissues or the surface layers of leaves and stems. Successful infection usually relies on the presence of entry points such as insect feeding wounds, pruning cuts, or natural openings, allowing the fungus to colonize internal plant tissues.

Spores can be disseminated via wind, water splashes, or contaminated agricultural tools, facilitating the rapid spread of the disease within a field or greenhouse facility.
