The biological impact is categorized as an algal-induced physiological disorder. These organisms, characterized by silicified scales, can proliferate in nutrient-rich water, forming biofilms that physically obstruct irrigation equipment and interfere with root nutrient uptake in high-value vegetable crops.

Affected crops primarily include those grown under greenhouse conditions, such as tomatoes, cucumbers, and leafy greens. The presence of these organisms often signals an imbalance in water quality, leading to reduced nutrient availability and potential metabolic dysfunction in the plant tissue.
