Fusarium buharicum is a pathogenic fungus belonging to the Fusarium genus, recognized as a primary cause of Fusarium wilt and root rot in various agricultural crops. As a persistent soil-borne pathogen, it can survive in the environment for extended periods by producing resilient chlamydospores, making it a persistent threat to field health.
The host range of this fungus includes various cereals, legumes, and vegetable crops. The pathogen typically enters the host plant through the root system, eventually colonizing the vascular bundles. This colonization disrupts the plant's ability to transport water and essential nutrients, leading to systemic wilting.
Key symptoms of an infection include chlorosis of the lower leaves, gradual wilting starting from the base, and browning of the roots. Under high humidity conditions, a cottony white or pinkish mycelial growth may appear on the lower stem area, indicating that the fungus is actively sporulating.
