Fusarium equiseti is a significant fungal pathogen known to cause root rot, seedling blight, and stem lesions in a wide range of agricultural crops, including cereals, legumes, and various vegetables. As a soil-borne fungus, it possesses a high capacity to survive on crop debris and in the soil matrix for extended periods, making it a persistent threat to productivity.

The host range of this pathogen is remarkably broad, affecting everything from wheat and barley to complex horticultural crops. The impact is most devastating during the early germination stages, where the pathogen colonizes the seed and the emerging radicle, often resulting in damping-off and poor crop establishment.
