Description
The disease is caused by the fungus Fusarium macrosporum, a member of the diverse Fusarium genus. This plant pathogen is responsible for tissue necrosis in various plant species, disrupting normal metabolic processes and leading to the development of characteristic lesions on leaves and stems.
This pathogen demonstrates a wide host range, commonly infecting various agricultural crops, vegetables, and ornamental plants. The fungus is capable of persisting in the soil and on infected plant debris, which allows it to remain present in the field throughout the year, posing a recurring threat to subsequent planting cycles.
Symptoms typically begin as small, chlorotic spots that gradually expand and transition into brown or dark necrotic patches.
