Fusarium oedipigera is a soil-borne fungal pathogen responsible for Fusarium wilt, a severe vascular disease affecting various horticultural and ornamental crops. The fungus invades the plant's xylem, restricting water and nutrient uptake, which ultimately leads to wilting and tissue necrosis.
A wide range of crops is susceptible to this pathogen, particularly those grown in intensive farming systems or greenhouses. Its impact is most significant on vegetable crops, where the infection can severely limit productivity and lead to the loss of entire plant batches if not managed promptly.
Typical symptoms manifest as leaf yellowing, stunting of growth, and sudden wilting of the leaves during the heat of the day.
