Fusarium torulosum is a fungal plant pathogen belonging to the Fusarium genus, responsible for causing various diseases in agricultural crops, primarily grain cereals. This pathogen is known for its ability to produce secondary metabolites, including mycotoxins, which significantly impact the quality of the harvested grain and pose risks to food safety.

The primary hosts of this pathogen include wheat, barley, oats, and rye. It can affect the plants at different growth stages, causing seedling blight, root and crown rot, and the well-documented Fusarium head blight (FHB). The systemic nature of the infection allows the fungus to move through the plant vascular system, leading to widespread damage.

Key symptoms of the disease include the bleaching of spikelets, which can appear prematurely, and the development of characteristic pinkish or orange mycelial growth on the grain head, especially under humid conditions.
