Fusarium tricinctum is a pathogenic fungus belonging to the genus Fusarium. It is recognized as a significant agent of plant diseases, primarily known for causing crown rot, root rot, and head blight in various cereal crops across temperate and humid agricultural regions.
The primary hosts for this pathogen include wheat, barley, oats, and rye. It also has a broad host range including maize and various grasses. This diversity makes the fungus highly persistent in agricultural landscapes, as it can survive on many different substrates during crop rotation cycles.
Infected plants typically display stunted growth, browning of the basal stems, and root decay. The most distinctive symptom on mature plants is the premature bleaching of the grain heads, accompanied by the development of characteristic pink or white fungal sporulation on the glumes and spikelets.
