However, it is fundamentally different from a plant disease; it is a fungus belonging to the Glomeromycota phylum that maintains a unique endocytobiosis with the cyanobacterium Nostoc punctiforme. It poses no threat to agricultural crops or plant health.

The fungus develops specialized bladder-like structures above the soil surface that host the cyanobacteria within its hyphal walls. Through this interaction, the fungus obtains fixed carbon from the photosynthetic bacteria. This mechanism is purely symbiotic and does not involve any parasitic activity toward host plants or crops typically grown in agriculture.

As this organism is not a disease, it produces no symptoms or signs of infection in plants. It does not cause wilting, lesions, chlorosis, or any other physiological damage to crops.
