Graphylliosis is a fungal plant disease caused by the ascomycete Graphyllium pentamerum. This pathogen affects various herbaceous plant species, functioning primarily as a facultative parasite that colonizes tissues weakened by environmental stress or physiological imbalances.

The biology of the pathogen involves the formation of perithecia, where sexual spores (ascospores) are produced. These spores serve as the primary inoculum and are dispersed by wind and splashing rain, allowing the fungus to colonize healthy plants effectively during favorable weather conditions.

Typical symptoms include the appearance of necrotic spots on foliage and stems, which often develop into larger lesions over time. As the disease progresses, black pycnidia or similar fungal fruiting bodies may appear on the surface of the lesions, leading to tissue chlorosis and eventually premature leaf senescence and necrosis.
