While it is not a primary pathogen of healthy trees, it can settle on weakened hosts and accelerate the decomposition of woody tissues.
The fungus acts as an agent of wood decay. It breaks down cellulose and lignin, effectively contributing to the carbon cycle in forest ecosystems.
