The pathogen utilizes the juniper as a long-term reservoir during the winter, while the rosaceous plants serve as summer hosts for active spore production.

Symptoms on junipers typically appear as swollen galls or woody growths on branches that produce bright orange, gelatinous spore masses during humid weather. On the leaves and fruit of pear or apple trees, the disease manifests as distinct orange to reddish-brown spots, leading to premature leaf drop and fruit deformation.

Development and spread of the fungus are highly dependent on environmental conditions, particularly high humidity, rain, and moderate temperatures. Wind-blown spores travel from juniper hosts to fruit trees, especially during the spring season when new succulent growth is vulnerable to infection.
