This pathogen is known for infecting a wide variety of plant species, including small fruits and various ornamental plants. By targeting the leaf tissue, the fungus interferes with the plant's metabolic processes, leading to reduced vitality and aesthetic damage.
The host range of Hainesia is broad, with strawberries and several species of shrubs being particularly susceptible. The fungus operates as a facultative parasite, meaning it can survive on decaying plant debris before colonizing healthy tissues when the environmental conditions become favorable for its growth and reproduction.
Symptoms initially appear as small, scattered spots on leaves, which may enlarge and exhibit necrotic centers surrounded by a distinct halo or margin.
