Helgardiomycosis is a fungal disease caused by the Helgardiomyces pathogen. As a specific plant pathogen, it targets the vegetative tissues of various agricultural and ornamental crops. The disease is categorized as a mycosis, affecting the plant's structural integrity and physiological efficiency, often leading to rapid tissue decline if left untreated.

The host range of this pathogen primarily includes fruit-bearing species and various garden plants. The fungus enters the plant through natural openings like stomata or via small physical lesions. Once inside, it colonizes the intercellular space, deriving nutrition from the host, which leads to localized starvation and cellular necrosis in the affected parts of the plant.
