In an agricultural setting, these fungi are primarily identified as soil-dwelling organisms that often act as specialized parasites of nematodes and other small soil invertebrates, though they can also be found colonizing decaying organic matter in the rhizosphere of various cultivated plants.
The type of disease associated with Helicocephalum is typically classified as a form of mycopathogenic or saprotrophic activity. While not always a primary aggressive pathogen, its presence can become problematic when it colonizes the roots of weakened plants, facilitating the development of secondary infections and disrupting the plant's nutrient uptake capabilities.
