These organisms primarily cause white rot in the woody tissues of deciduous trees, leading to the gradual degradation of lignin and cellulose within the host's structural system.
The host range of this pathogen includes various broad-leaved tree species found in both wild forests and agricultural settings. The fungus typically exploits entry points such as wounds, fire damage, frost cracks, or improper pruning cuts, which serve as gateways for the mycelium to penetrate the internal xylem of the tree.
Symptoms of an infestation are characterized by the emergence of specific fruiting bodies on the trunk or branches, often displaying a fan-like or radial growth pattern.
