Huntiella omanensis is a significant fungal pathogen that belongs to the order Microascales. Originally associated with the genus Ceratocystis, it has been reclassified due to specific morphological and genetic traits. This fungus is known for colonizing the xylem of various tree species, leading to severe vascular complications that compromise the structural and physiological health of the plant.

The host range of Huntiella omanensis is primarily concentrated on tropical and subtropical woody plants, including various Acacia species and commercial crops like mango (Mangifera indica). In these hosts, the pathogen establishes itself within the woody tissues, creating a bottleneck for hydraulic flow and gradually leading to the decline of the vascular system.

Symptoms of the infection typically include dark discoloration of the sapwood and visible necrotic lesions on the trunk or branches. A classic diagnostic feature is the exudation of resin or gum from infection sites (gummosis). As the fungus blocks xylem vessels, the foliage above the infection point often shows signs of wilting, chlorosis, and eventual necrosis, leading to crown dieback.

The development of Huntiella omanensis is heavily influenced by environmental moisture levels and ambient temperatures. The fungus spreads predominantly through insect vectors, such as bark beetles or wood borers, that carry inoculum between host trees.
