Downy mildew of camelina, caused by the oomycete Hyaloperonospora camelinae, is a destructive plant disease affecting Camelina sativa. As an obligate parasite, this pathogen thrives by extracting nutrients from the host plant, leading to significant physiological stress and reduced overall productivity of the crop.

The disease primarily targets the leaves, stems, and inflorescences of the camelina plant. By disrupting the photosynthetic capability of the foliage, the pathogen limits the plant's ability to accumulate energy for seed filling, which directly impacts the oil content and final yield quality in commercial agricultural production.

Symptoms typically begin with chlorotic, yellowing patches on the upper surface of the leaves. As the disease progresses and environmental humidity remains high, a visible downy growth—representing the asexual reproductive structures of the pathogen—develops on the underside of the leaves. In severe infections, the plant exhibits stunting, leaf distortion, and necrosis.
