Blue tooth fungus (Hydnellum caeruleum) is a fascinating species of the Bankeraceae family, often misinterpreted as a plant disease. In reality, it is a beneficial mycorrhizal fungus that forms symbiotic relationships with coniferous trees, particularly spruce and pine. It does not cause damage to plants and should not be managed as a pathogen or a pest in agricultural settings.

The morphology of Hydnellum caeruleum is distinct, featuring a velvety, often blue or bluish-grey cap in its early stages. As it matures, the cap turns brownish, and the characteristic downward-pointing spines on the underside release spores. The fungus is often noted for the drops of liquid that appear on its surface when it is young, which may have a striking blue tint.
