The causative agent belongs to the Tuberaceae family. The fungus thrives in soil conditions characterized by high humidity, poor aeration, and the presence of raw organic matter. Its biology involves forming mycelial mats that can physically surround the root zone, creating a barrier that disrupts the uptake of water and essential nutrients by the host plant.
Plants affected by this fungus often include various greenhouse vegetable crops, such as tomatoes and peppers.
