These fungi belong to the Basidiomycota phylum and are particularly notable for their ability to produce spores that are easily disseminated by wind and water splash. The disease is known to affect various plants, most notably sunflowers, parsnips, and several ornamental species, causing extensive tissue damage.
The disease symptoms typically manifest as necrotic spots on foliage, stems, and floral parts. As the infection progresses, these spots expand, causing the tissue to become brittle, brown, and necrotic.
