Jaapia (Latin: Jaapia) is a genus of basidiomycete fungi primarily known for its role as a wood-decay pathogen. In agronomy and forestry, this organism is categorized as a wood-rotting fungus that contributes significantly to the natural decomposition of lignin and cellulose within tree trunks and branches.

The causative agent acts as a wood-destroying fungus leading to white rot. Through the secretion of potent enzymes, the fungus breaks down the rigid structure of wood, causing it to become soft, bleached, and fibrous. This biological process compromises the structural integrity of the affected host plant over time.

This pathogen typically infects various deciduous and coniferous species. It is most commonly found on dead wood, stumps, and logging residues, but it can also opportunistically infect living trees that have weakened defenses or mechanical wounds on their bark surface.
