These pathogens penetrate plant tissue and develop fruiting bodies known as pycnidia, which serve as sources of inoculum for subsequent infections. It is a persistent disease that, if left untreated, can compromise the structural integrity of leaves.
The primary hosts for Kellermania infections include members of the Agavaceae family, such as Yucca and Agave, as well as several ornamental woody species. The fungus is particularly opportunistic, often attacking plants that are stressed by poor growing conditions or environmental extremes. Understanding host vulnerability is key to early detection in nurseries and gardens.
Symptoms of this disease are characterized by the development of leaf spots that typically start as small, discolored lesions. As the infection progresses, these spots expand, often turning brown, gray, or tan with a distinct margin.
