The host range is primarily limited to various species of pine (Pinus spp.). Both naturally occurring stands and commercial nurseries are susceptible to outbreaks. In nursery environments, the close proximity of seedlings allows the fungus to spread rapidly, potentially resulting in heavy losses of stock if not detected and addressed in a timely manner.
