While chemical control is generally not required for lichens, physical maintenance of the orchard remains standard practice. Cleaning the bark during dormant seasons and applying lime-based washes can help maintain clean trunks. By keeping the orchard well-ventilated and ensuring the trees remain in a vigorous growth stage, the competitive advantage of the tree prevents the excessive buildup of epiphytic organisms on the bark.
