The fungus attaches itself to the chitinous lining of the host's gut using a specific structure known as a holdfast. Its body consists of a branched thallus, which optimizes nutrient absorption from the host’s digestive tract. This symbiotic or commensal relationship is highly adapted to the insect's life cycle, particularly the molting stages.
