Environmental conditions conducive to its development include high humidity levels and moderate temperatures typically between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius. The fungus spreads through basidiospores that colonize moist, dead wood surfaces. It requires a specific moisture content within the substrate to successfully establish its mycelial network.

In terms of agricultural significance, Lentinula edodes is one of the most widely cultivated edible mushrooms globally. Rather than implementing protective measures, growers focus on optimized cultivation techniques using logs or substrate blocks. This controlled environment ensures the efficient production of fruiting bodies, making it a highly valued commercial crop in the mycological industry.
