The fungus Leptographium lundbergii is an ascomycete pathogen responsible for the condition commonly known as blue stain in coniferous trees. It is closely associated with bark beetles, which act as vectors, transporting fungal spores directly into the tree's vascular system while creating entry points through the bark.

The primary hosts of this pathogen are pine species, although it can also affect spruce and other conifers. The disease is most prevalent in forests subjected to environmental stress, such as drought or physical damage, which lowers the trees' natural defenses and makes them more attractive to beetle colonization.
