Leptosphaeria orthrosanthi is a fungal pathogen responsible for causing leaf spot disease, primarily affecting plants of the Orthrosanthus genus within the Iridaceae family. This ascomycete fungus acts as a specialized parasite, targeting the foliage of its host and significantly impairing the plant's ability to undergo photosynthesis.

The host range is centered on specific ornamental plants that thrive in specific climatic conditions. When these plants are cultivated under stress or in environments that do not meet their physiological needs, the pathogen finds optimal conditions to establish and colonize the host tissues, leading to potential decline of the plant population.

Visible symptoms include the development of necrotic lesions on the leaves, which often appear as discolored, sunken spots. As the infection progresses, these lesions may expand and merge, eventually causing chlorosis and premature senescence of the leaf tissue.
