Leptosphaeria pedicularis is a fungal pathogen classified within the Ascomycota phylum, responsible for leaf spot and stem necrosis on specific host plants. It primarily infects species within the Pedicularis genus (Orobanchaceae family). This pathogen is specialized, often causing disease outbreaks in dense populations of its host plant under suitable environmental conditions.

The clinical signs of the infection are characterized by the appearance of dark, necrotic spots on the foliage and stems. As the disease progresses, these lesions may merge, leading to the collapse of the plant tissues. Upon close examination, especially with a hand lens, one can observe small, black, eruptive structures known as pseudothecia, which signify the sexual reproductive stage of the fungus.
