Limonomyces is a genus of basidiomycetous fungi primarily known for causing the "pink patch" disease, a common issue affecting turfgrasses and various forage grasses. The most common species associated with this pathology is Limonomyces roseipellis. As a biotrophic pathogen, it targets the leaf tissue, significantly impacting the aesthetic and biological quality of the affected host plants.
The host range of Limonomyces includes many cool-season turfgrass species, such as fescue and bluegrass, as well as several related cereal crops. The disease is frequently observed in environments where grasses are densely planted, leading to poor airflow and increased local humidity, which provides a suitable microclimate for fungal infection.
